OBJECTIVE: To discuss new strategies of outreach interventio in gay bars and night clubs, as part of a project on AIDS prevention for MWM. (Men who have sex with men).

METHODS: To make an analysis of the data collected at the weekly outreach interventions in gays night clubs and bars. The number of people that look for the informative material, the number of registrations and the attendance at the safe sex workshops.

RESULTS: The level of interest demonstrated towards the informative material and the activities of this project is low, in spite of the good quality of the material distributed and the effort to give it out.

DISCUSSION: The data suggest that the prevention speech faces a great deal of rejection among the homosexual men. The outreach intervention should avoid this model in order to reach a more attrative grupal language. New strategies are suggested aiming to lower the impact that AIDS presents and to create a more effective way of insertion in the gay community.
