Knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding AIDS in Nicaragua.

OBJECTIVE: To assess KAPs regarding AIDS in different population groups in Nicaragua.

METHODS: 3,034 Barrio dwellers, 451 students, 54 female sex workers, 57 male prisoners and 19 street children were interviewed.

RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. Levels of knowledge were higher among male barrio dwellers and students than among their female counterparts.

CONCLUSIONS: Knowledge regarding AIDS, risk perception and levels of condom use are low, and particularly inadequate among women and groups at high risk such as sex workers and prisoners.
