Question:

Good day,
Was wondering if the doc was aware of the Uni Gold Recombigen HIV Rapid Test by Trinity Biotech. How does this test compare to the Orasure Advanced Rapid Test other than from 20-40 minutes wait time down to 10? Also, I've heard/read that this test is more sensitive, thus reducing the 'window period' from 3 months down to 4 weeks. I am not sure if that is correct though. Thanks for the info.

The UNIGOLD is more rapid...10 minutes and has 100% sensitivity and 99.3% specificity...a positive test MUST be confirmed with an HIV specific test (Western Blot).

It does not detect HIV infection earlier...this can only be done with the judicious use of antigen testing in the context of antibody testing and clinical information.

All rapid tests must be performed by qualified and trained personnel.
