Question:

Dear Doctor,
I had sex with a prostitute. I do not know if she had any STDs, like HIV. I used a condom and I did NOT ejaculate. Assuming that the prostitute had STDs, is there any chance that I may have gotten an STD? I think I don't have any STDs because it was protected sex (i.e. I used a condom), but I am still worried if there is any chance that I have got any.

A condom used for intercourse should protect from any STDs, including HIV, of course. However, certain ones, such as Herpes, syphilis, and hepatitis can, although rarely, be transmitted through oral sex, even kissing. So if this activity occurred, you would do well to speak to your provider to see if any further testing is warranted.
