Hi there, I've been on Trizivir, and Sustiva for the past two years. I want to have a break of three weeks. My viral load is undedectable an my cd4 count is 440. Will I have any serious ill effects in that time? I can go back on them after my break?

Most all persons on antiviral therapy can tolerate a break of 3 weeks. However, please speak to your provider--the Sustiva takes longer to clear out of the system than the components of Trizivir. Thus, people who are going off such regimens usually stop the Sustiva first, and then the other medications after 4- 5 days more. This limits the chance of incurring resistance.
