Question:

I am a 38 years old man and have been HIV positive since 1997. I am under medications and my numbers are great. Viral load is undetectable and CD4 count 1200+. Nevertheless, I have experienced a very low level of energy. I seem to be pretty tired all day long and when I sleep I seem to be almost dead... I have a lot of trouble waking up in the mornings. I also seem to be depressed...Is there anything that I could do or take to increase my energy level? Is this related to my HAART regimen?

Thank you for your help and keep up the good work!

Hey,
First, I'm glad to say that with those numbers, the problems you're having are probably not directly due to HIV disease. Fatigue is very common in people living with this virus, it can be the result of medications, depression, life-style issues, or hormonal problems. There are, unfortunately, many things that can cause fatigue.

You need to discuss this with your doctor, and check for problems that can be treated. Most issues can be remedied.

The list of potential issues is really too long to address here, especially without knowing your history better. I would be sure that if investigated, you can get help for these problems.
