Question:

I am writing to ask if you have ever had anyone experience unexplained conditions to medications they were taking?

For 4 to 5 months now I have been getting profuse sweating while exerting mild physical exertion where I can sweat and totally soak my clothing and after that, usually at night, will get cold spots that generally cover all my right lung area and sometimes goes down to where my liver area is. I can also feel the cold where the artery runs along my shoulder blade and after a while I will get very warm and will break out in a sweat that is usually a soaking sweat!

My doctor at the VA in pittsburgh has run a Thallium test to rule out heart and to check for overactive or under active thyroid and did a chest x-ray which will be read sometime this week!

He said he doesn't know what may be causing the coldness. Do you have any ideas or have you had this any other patients?

Could it be drug related? I just changed drugs a month ago I had been on Kaletra, DDI,and Combivir and was changed to Reyataz and Combivir and now he thinks he wants to change me back to Kaletra because my liver enzymes are getting high!

Any suggestions would help us sort this out or give us direction to where to go next?

Sweating is an uncommon but known side effect of Reyataz. Please refer to the enclosed website as one example of where you can see this, under the table, under the section, "Body As A Whole." It is very common for patients to undergo all sorts of tests when the symptom may actually be caused by a medication. Most doctors, myself included, known about the common side effects, but not the rare ones such as this.

You can decide with your doctor whether or not you wish to change medication. Also, many side effects tend to taper off after a few weeks to a few months. There is no way of telling if this will or not.

Good luck!
