You can only get HIV from someone if you are in contact with their blood or sexual fluid. This should not happen in a common household or institutional situation, and has never been known to occur in a prison setting. You CANNOT get HIV from sharing dishes, hugging, working or playing with someone with HIV. It does not spread through saliva, sweat, tears, urine, or feces.
