Question:

Can you please answer the following question:
Are there any obstacles (interfering, overlapping toxicities etc.) for using Oseltamivir by HIV+ persons who are on the HAART regimen ?

I'am on Efavirenz/Abacavir/Didanosin regimen. My CD4 Count is 201, no history of OIs. (I'am also HCV+, and have no signs of liver inflammation, AST/ALT levels are within the normal range). And I am currently not on any other medication.

I ask this question because in my country we are in the middle of the Flu outbreak, and I would like to consider preventive measures. I' ve heard that Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) can be used as a prophylaxis, in order to avoid Flu.

There are no known obstacles for being on a HAART regimen and taking oseltamivir. However, the best prevention for the flu involves careful handwashing and avoidance of persons who are already infected, as well as obtaining the flu vaccine--which may or may be available to you. Drugs such as oseltamivir are used not so much to prevent the flu, but at the first sign of flu symptoms. Please refer to this website for more information:
