Question:

I am a HIV Positive male who has been positive since 1997. I am presently on the medications Zerit 40 mg, Viramune 200 mg, Epivir 150 mg along with Liptor 40 mg. I was having a problem with getting and maintaining an erection for which my doctor prescribed the medication Levitra 10 mg. I have tried the medication 2 times with my wife and it still has not worked. Is it possible that the HIV medication can have an affect on this medication? Looking for help and information.
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Sexual problems are very common in men living with HIV, you are certainly not alone. Problems with erections can happen for many reasons. The stress of living with disease causes anxiety. There can be hormonal changes. There are lots of reasons.

I would think that you should discuss this with your doctor. It might be useful to measure your male hormone levels, as they can be low in people with HIV.

There are so many reasons that this can happen, and the treatments vary. Bring it again to your doctor's attention. It is a situation that can be improved on.
