Does infection with HIV or the use of HIV meds cause a lowering of testosterone levels?
Many men living with HIV do show depressed levels of testosterone, and hormone replacement therapy is common. The exact mechanism of this decrease in male hormones is unclear. It may relate to HIV itself or the simple condition of chronic disease. I do not believe that ant-retroviral therapy itself is responsible.
