Question:

Hello there, I'm wondering if there is a problem with these combos of meds (as in side effects) they are: Methadone, Prozac, Kaeltra, Trizivir, Neurontin, Xanax, Veg laxatives and Afrin.

Here is the thing, I will be feeling excellent having lots of motivation, energy, just on top of the world then like a light switch I will all of a sudden feel like I've been unplugged, there will be anxiety, no motivation no energy, worrying, and what scares me is that my vision will go blurry or double when I look at something. Or, if I'm driving, cars will double, almost like a dizzing effect in my head. I was having these problems before switching to methadone from ms contin so I dont think its from that.
I've been poz for about 13 years.
Thanks!!

Answer provided by Daniel H. Bowers, M.D.:

The major player in effecting medication levels is the ritonavir in Kaletra. It can cause the methadone levels to drop by about 30% which may be significant and and Xanax levels to drop about 12% which is probably not significant. Prozac levels may go up. Neurontin is not effected by ritonavir.

I would suspect though, they these changes in medication levels should be constant from day to day, so that once the dosage of the each medication is adjusted up or down, you should not have a fluctuation in your mental status. You may want to look elsewhere to explain your symptoms.
