Question:

I have been tested using the OraSure oral test. My question is this, the day I went to get tested I had a dry mouth, would the lab know if there was not enough OMT [Oral mucosal transudate] to test to give accurate results?

Answer provided by:

John Barrow, M.D.

Unless your mouth was as dry as a fresh newspaper, there should be no problem. When your mouth is transiently "dry," there should be plenty of saliva for the purposes of the test. If you are concerned, you could be retested, if only to be sure that you are comfortable with the test results.

I congratulate you on the mature and responsible decision to be tested, in the first place.
