Question:

I found out I had AIDS about a year and a half ago. I had a gum infection which led me to lose some teeth. My surgeon performed a bone implant which failed due to infection. Although, I didn't know it until a few weeks later, I'm sure the reason it failed was because I was suffering from HIV and my t-cells were down to around 40 at the time.

Since getting treatment however, I'm happy to report that my t-cells are in the four hundreds and I'm feeling fine. Right now, I'm using a partial denture in my mouth and would prefer to have something permanent. However, I don't want to unnecessarily tax my immune system or incur another failed implant. I guess my question is, is there a point once the immune system does start to rebound (in terms of viral load and t-cell count) where the body is once again better able to handle these kinds of procedures?

Thanks for your time. I can't tell you how helpful your service and informations is.

I'm certainly glad to hear that you are having a good response to your medications.

I would certainly discuss your concerns with your dentist. Your immune system shows marked improvement, and there is no specific reason to think that you would not be a good candidate for any type of surgery.
