Question:

If a person is experiencing recurring OI's and has a weak immune system, by when will the PCR-DNA or PCR-RNA be able to pickup the HIV virus if this is the cause?
Thanks

Answer provided by:

John Barrow, M.D.

If a patient has HIV, and disease has progressed to the point where opportunistic infections are occurring due to depletion of the immune system, a test for viral DNA would presumably be positive.

Is there a context for this question?
