Question:

Dear Sir / Doctor Forum,
I am a HIV positive man since a year and I am taking AZT tablets. I would like to know, with the advance experience/technology available around the world today is there a treatment can completely alienate the HIV. If not, is there any chance in the near future?
Many thanks.

There is currently no treatment available that can completely eliminate HIV infection from the body. The treatment we currently have available worldwide can only decrease infection as long as it is taken as combination of three or more drugs and continued life long. Monotherapy or taking only one or drugs is not recommended as the virus quickly builds resistance to that drug so that it no longer works.

There is always hope that research will eliminate this disease eventually. Researchers continue to seek answers to this question and work toward develping treatments that will eliminate the virus completely, however, there is nothing that will be available in the near future.
