Abstract: A case of an unemployed, addiction-prone, homeless man with HIV is profiled by a social worker. Discussing the man's circumstances enabled the man to explore issues about his treatment, including his ability to sustain a treatment regimen. Key issues of adherence to treatment, drug use, and confidentiality were considered, though the patient's primary concern was obtaining medications from the clinic. It is concluded that a social worker's role as a patient's advisor is as important as the ability to help the patient obtain his medication.
