Abstract: The main reason people fail their HIV treatment is lack of adherence to their prescribed regimen. Judith A. Erlen of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing will conduct a study on how habit training, problem solving, and intervention can affect patient adherence to protease inhibitor therapy. The study will be conducted via telephone for 12 weeks followed by a 12-week maintenance program. The subjects will then be followed for an additional 6 months. The study will examine two different outcomes of adherence: clinical measures and quality of life.
