Abstract: The combination of HIV medications and street drugs not only taxes the liver and/or kidneys, but can be lethal. Several potential interactions are discussed. One dangerous combination is when ecstasy (X, MDMA) is taken with any protease inhibitor or non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Sedatives, barbiturates, and amphetamines are some of the other drugs that may also cause potentially hazardous interactions with HIV medications.
