Abstract:
We have recently demonstrated that pi-water (MRN-100) is a potent biological response modifier (BRM) that enhances Natural Killer (NK) cell activity in vivo. The MRN-100 is an iron base compound derived from bivalent and trivalent ferrates. In this study a phenotypic analysis of human lymphocyte sub-populations post treatment with pi-water was made. Five healthy control individuals were given pi-water (50 cc) daily by mouth for 1 month, and changes of lymphocyte sub-populations was examined by FAScan using appropriate monoclonal antibodies for CD4+,CD8+ cells, B cells, total NK (CD16+ and CD56+) cells and NK sub populations: NKHT3+ cells and NKHT3- cells. Results post-treatment were compared with base line values and showed that: (1) No significance changes in the total and the percentages of CD4+ and CD8+ cells and B cells. (2) Remarkable increase in the total (134%); and percentage of NK cells (142%). (3) 1.6 fold increase in the total and percentage of NK HT3+ cells and (4) 1.2 fold increase of NKHT3- cells. We conclude that the increase in NK cell sub-populations post treatment with pi-water may represent one mechanism by which this new BRM enhances NK cell activity.
