Abstract:
The XVIII Symposium of the International Association for Comparative Research on Leukemia and Related Diseases, Leukemia and Lymphoma/Pathogenesis and Treatment/Molecular Aspects, was held October 29-November 3, 1995 in Kyoto, Japan. The symposium included plenary sessions on gene rearrangement and leukemogenesis, progress in HTLV research, cytokine regulation, and apoptotic signals: gene therapy targets. Symposia topics were molecular leukemogenesis update; tumor suppressor genes in leukemogenesis; HIV and related virus pathogenesis; comparative retroviral leukemogenesis; retroviral pathogenesis; viral pathogenesis in animal models; hematopoiesis and leukemias; clinical studies in CML; and new therapeutic methods against leukemias and retroviral diseases. Updating Symposia topics were retroviruses and leukemia development; suppression of HIV replication; cell cycle regulation; cyclin inhibitors; retinoid biology; erythroid transcription factor; immuno-gene therapy; and HTLV-associated diseases. Eight minisymposia on progress in HTLV-1 research, oncogenic apoptotic genes, progress in HIV research, clinical aspects of leukemia, comparative leukemogenesis, hematopoietic regulation, gene rearrangement in leukemia, and cytokine signaling were also held. The symposium also included an opening ceremony, a panel discussion, a memorial lectureship, luncheon lectures, and poster sessions. Three Satellite Symposia were entitled: The Workshop on Roles of Transcriptional Regulator, Runt/AML1/PEBP2/CBF in Development, Differentiation, and Carcinogenesis; GIBCO-BRL Symposium on Virion-Cell Membrane Interaction Basis for Gene Transfer and Entry Block; and Leukemia Society of America/Chugai Research Institute of Molecular Medicine Joint Symposium on Immune System and Lymphomagenesis.
