Abstract: Cochleate delivery vehicles are unique, highly stable, lyophilizable, lipid-based vaccine carrier and delivery formulations. Cochleates containing proteins, peptides or DNA are highly effective vaccines when given on mucosal surfaces or parenterally. Strong, long lasting, mucosal and circulating antibody responses are generated. Cell mediated responses, including proliferative and cytolytic activities, are also induced. Oral administration, (simply by drinking), of protein cochleates leads to protection from mucosal challenge with live virus. Peroral or intramuscular delivery of encochleated DNA plasmids stimulates strong circulating antibody and splenic cytolytic responses.
