Abstract: A new grant program from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), called the INNOVATION Grant Program for Approaches in HIV Vaccine Research, is designed to speed the pace of work on developing an AIDS vaccine. The first phase of this pilot program encourages three areas of research: understanding the structure and function of the HIV envelope protein; improving animal models used in vaccine studies; and directing antigen processing in vitro to maximize immune response.
