Abstract:
Some of the most compelling presentations at the Fourth Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections were those involving the presence of HIV outside of the blood stream. Other topics discussed included drug-versus-drug studies, antiretroviral therapy for children, and studies showing stavudine plus 3TC as a potent nucleoside combination. A cluster of reports is included with hard data on how nonnucleosides and protease inhibitors might be combined in heavily-pretreated individuals. The conference reports are grouped under three headings: today's drugs, tomorrow's drugs, and tissue studies. Abstract numbers that are available on the World Wide Web are noted in parentheses in the text and tables.
