Abstract: Nelfinavir (Viracept) became the fourth protease inhibitor to gain marketing clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Approved in mid-March, Viracept will make a contribution to the efforts to treat the virus aggressively soon after diagnosis. Viracept was developed by Agouron, and the retail price of treatment will be $15.48 per day. There is a patient assistance program to help those who are financially unable to pay for the treatment.
