Abstract: AIDS death rates have fallen to about half of the previous levels among those who have access to new treatment options. Information on survival and hospitalization rates presented at the recent retroviruses conference is summarized. The 48 percent decline in New York City rates for AIDS deaths is attributed to more testing, better care, and adequate Federal and State funding for both care and prevention.
