Abstract: A Federal judge in San Francisco has issued a temporary restraining order barring Federal officials from prosecuting physicians who recommend marijuana for medicinal purposes. The restraining order is temporary, and a settlement conference is scheduled for April 17, 1997. In the meantime, physicians can discuss uses of marijuana with patients and recommend it without fear of retaliation. Doctors are cautioned to document all such conversations and only discuss the issue with bona fide patients, as Federal drug agents have posed as patients in the past to gather evidence against physicians.
