Abstract: Access to indinavir (Crixivan) has been severely limited by production problems since it entered the market in March of 1996, and access has only been through the mail-order Stadtlander's Pharmacy. Merck is finally expanding its distribution program to include other pharmacies, but people must still enroll in a cumbersome distribution program to receive the drug. It is unlikely that anyone will be able to walk into a pharmacy and get the drug. Merck does not foresee going into normal distribution soon. Although production has increased, quantities are limited. The drug has been approved in 49 countries and supplies are closely monitored.
