Abstract: It is believed that the HIV epidemic will increasingly fuel the TB epidemic in farmworkers in the years to come as it increases the likelihood that dormant TB infection will progress to active TB disease. Several case studies of TB in HIV-positive farmworkers show the problems inherent in maintaining treatment, revealing the need for a complete family and personal history to be taken in order to search for TB risk factors. A complete history may disclose risk factors that may be indications for isoniazid prophylaxis in an HIV-infected person even when the PPD test is read as 0 mm of induration.
