Abstract: Merck will conduct two large trials to test MK-639, a protease inhibitor. One trial is for people who have never taken AZT or other antiretrovirals, and the other is for those who have used AZT. These trials will be conducted in numerous cities across the United States, with other trials to be conducted in foreign countries. The first trial is seeking 780 people with CD4 counts between 50 and 500; the second trial needs 90 people with CD4 counts between 50 and 400. Contact the Merck Protease Inhibitor Information Line, (800) 379-1332 for information on both trials.
