Abstract: Some controversy has arisen over enrollment procedures for the Inter-Company Collaboration for AIDS Drug Development (ICC) trials. Potential participants must submit blood work that has been done within the preceding thirty days that shows probable eligibility (CD4 counts between 200 and 500 with no AZT therapy experience). It is commented that this pre-screening requirement delays enrollment considerably in a trial that has already experienced major delays. The pre-enrollment requirements are seen as an example of cost shifting from those who could afford it to those least able to pay.
