Abstract: The second edition of this well-known text preserves the arrangement of the first with its 64 chapters divided into three sections on basic principles, specific neoplasms, and supportive care. Its basic objectives remain: to provide the practitioner and trainee with a single, comprehensive source of information; and to serve as a platform on which to build new information. The increasing body of basic and clinical knowledge that is addressed in this edition is reflected in the increase in the number of collaborating authors to 111, and the addition of four associate editors. New chapters have been added to reflect the influence of basic advances in approaches to diagnosis and management, neoplasms associated with AIDS, and the management of the pregnant patient with cancer. Each chapter is extensively referenced and illustrated, and the index is comprehensive.
