Abstract: Manufacturers of polyurethane condoms are hopeful that their thinner, more sensitive products will attract current latex users and expand the overall use of condoms. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials are concerned that polyurethane condoms will steal market share from the only device in which they have confidence. Industry spokespersons believe the condom will attract new users rather than become a substitute for the latex condom.
