Abstract: Rapid detection of low levels of HIV infected cells is necessary for the screening of donated blood as well as in the clinical diagnosis of infection. Aprogenex has developed an HIV diagnostic test, Virafy, sensitive enough to detect infected cell lines diluted down to 1 in 10,000 with uninfected cell lines by flow cytometry. The test can be performed in less than 1 hour and with the use of proprietary background reducers and signal enhancers these low levels of detection can be obtained. Other potential applications include determination of the level of RNA infection in cells as well as the evaluation of therapeutic regimens.
