Abstract: Myocardial involvement in the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is well established on clinical data, echocardiographic studies, macropathological findings and histological studies on autopsy or endomyocardial biopsy specimens. The condition may present with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction with a low ejection fraction, acute or subacute myocarditis or cardiac failure and dilated cardiomyopathy. A few cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with HIV infection have also been reported.
