Abstract:
Various aspects of the life cycle of HIV are reviewed, including molecular determinants of clinical latency (cellular activation and HIV replication [activation and HIV DNA synthesis, activation and transcription of HIV genes], the question of whether viral genes are involved in clinical latency, self-limited HIV replication as a model for clinical latency, the role of infectious cofactors, effects of the immune response and effects of antiretroviral therapy); theoretical and function analysis of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) fusion peptide (molecular modeling of the insertion of the SIV 12aa fusion peptide in a lipid matrix, immunoprecipitation with a pool of monoclonal antibodies specific for SIV glycoproteins, Hut 78 cells infected with recombinant vaccinia viruses encoding wild-type or mutated glycoproteins and effects of gp32 mutations on gp160 expression and processing [CD4 binding and fusion potential]); and the human T-cell leukemia virus 1 (HTLV-1) envelope (HTLV-1 envelope synthesis, envelope immunodominant region, envelope receptor distribution, analysis of maturation of HTLV-1 envelope mutants, effects of mutations on syncytia formation, the probability that HTLV-1 envelope is a compact protein and whether HTLV-1 envelope is responsible for the disease induced by HTLV-1 [tropical spastic paraparesis vs adult T-cell leukemia]).
