Abstract: Recently, a change of trend is noticed nation wide in the incidence of lymphoma and Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) in AIDS patients (pts). Contrary to the increase in lymphoma and decrease in KS, a different pattern is observed in the urban inner city population of CCH. Since 1985 until July 1992, a total of 196 cases of lymphoma were seen. Only 15 (7.65%) were found in AIDS pts. When compared, the trend was the same each year with no significant increase in the incidence. Similarly, 132 pts were seen with KS from 1985 until July 1992, with an av 16.2 for the 5-yr period 1986-1990. There was 200% increase in the last 1.5 yr compared to previous 5 yr. Three-year moving av indicated a steady growth in number of KS in AIDS pts at CCH. Results are presented in a table. No difference was observed in the treatment and follow-up of AIDS pts compared to nationwide managerial strategy. No obvious reason was found for this apparent difference in pattern. Further evaluations are being done.
