Abstract: Characteristics and therapy of specific neoplasms are reviewed, with emphasis on therapy. Topics include breast cancer; thoracic neoplasms (lung cancer, mesothelioma, and mediastinal tumors); gastrointestinal neoplasms (esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon and rectum, anus, exocrine pancreas, liver metastases, primary neoplasms of the liver, gallbladder, extrahepatic bile ducts, and ampulla of vater); gynecologic neoplasms (ovary and fallopian tubes, cervix, uterine corpus, vulva, vagina, and gestational trophoblastic neoplasms); head and neck neoplasms (oral cavity and oropharynx, nasal cavity, and paranasal sinuses, nasopharynx, salivary glands, larynx and hypopharynx, and chemotherapy of head and neck cancer); malignant endocrine tumors (multiple endocrine neoplasia, parathyroid glands, thyroid gland, endocrine pancreas, carcinoid tumors, pheochromocytoma, and adrenal cortex); neoplasms of the nervous system (brain and spinal cord); pediatric neoplasms (retinoblastoma, Wilms' tumor, and neuroblastoma); melanoma and skin cancer (melanoma, ocular malignant melanoma, and skin cancer); sarcomas (osteogenic, Ewing's, soft tissue, and vascular); AIDS and AIDS-related neoplasms (AIDS and Kaposi's sarcoma); hematopoietic neoplasms (polycythemia vera and the myeloproliferative syndromes; acute myelogenous leukemia and the myelodysplastic syndromes; acute lymphoblastic, chronic myelogenous, chronic lymphocytic and hairy cell leukemias; myeloma, macroglobulinemia and heavy chain disease; Hodgkin's disease; non-Hodgkin's lymphomas; mycosis fungoides; small noncleaved cell lymphoma [Burkitt's and non-Burkitt's types]; and histiocytic malignancies); genitourinary neoplasms (prostate, bladder cancer, urethra and penis, kidney, and testis); and metastatic disease (metastases of unknown origin, malignant effusions, and superior vena cava syndrome).
