Abstract: In order to study the immunoreactive state in the tissue of breast cancer and its clinical significance, T cell subsets were observed with 3 monoclonal antibodies and ABC immunohistochemical technique in the tissues of 39 cases of breast cancer and 30 cases of breast benign diseases. The numbers of T cell subsets in cancer-nest mesenchyma were found more frequently than that in cancer-nest parenchyma, and OKT8+ cells obviously predominated over OKT4+ cells. OKT4+/OKT8+ ratios in cancer tissues were lower than that in benign tissues, whether in parenchyma or in mesenchyma. T cell subsets were sparse or even absent in cancer-nest parenchyma. These results indicate that the local immunity in breast cancer tissues is of low state, which may be one of reasons that tumor cells cannot be killed effectively.
