Abstract: The 4th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin, held April 18-20, 1991, in New York City, consisted of presentations with panel discussions, round table workshops, and short presentations on work in progress. The first session addressed viral oncogenesis and skin cancer (overview of human retroviruses, adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma, human papilloma and herpes viruses and malignancies, Kaposi's sarcoma, and malignancies associated with HIV), with four workshops on phases of HIV management. The second session covered malignant melanoma, with presentations on biology and pathology and clinical and therapeutic aspects, plus round tables on management. The third session, on basal and squamous cell carcinoma, consisted entirely of workshops: update on standard modalities for removal of nonmelanoma skin cancers, nonsurgical management, reconstructive surgery, controversies in photobiology, topical and systemic retinoids, laser therapy, and surgical management of advanced cancers of the skin.
