Abstract:
In a previous report (6th International Conference on Adjuvant Therapy of Cancer, Tucson, AZ, 3/7-10/90), an example of benefit from the simultaneous adjuvant treatment of a hypercoagulable state, and fibrinolytic failure in a 75-yr-old female with 'terminal' disseminated malignant disease (Ca breast) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by prolonged iv heparin therapy was described. Her complete remission is now in its 4th yr. Because a similar result has been observed in a 70-yr-old male with disseminated Kaposi's sarcoma (DKS), DVT and coagulopathy, the results of studies in 3 pts with AIDS, and in 1 pt with ARC are presented in a table, and compared with the data previously reported. All show a similar coagulopathy. These results suggest that effective adjuvant treatment of an associated coagulopathy might be of benefit in the therapeutic management of DKS, AIDS and ARC.
