Abstract: The lymphoma occurring in AIDS patients is characterized by the following features. 1. It is a B-cell malignant neoplasm of high-grade malignancy resulting from a profound T-cell suppression caused by the cytotoxic effect of a retrovirus that has lymphotropism for the T4 subset. 2. The age of lymphoma patients parallels that of AIDS patients. 3. Prodromal manifestations frequently herald the emergence of the lymphoma. 4. Extranodal involvement is frequently seen. 5. The lymphomas are resistant to treatment, with low patient survival.
