Abstract: (Producer) They leave food outside my door because they are afraid, says a patient. The hospital is under siege by a deadly epidemic. Already one-third of the beds in the wards are filled with incurably ill patients who require five times the care of other admissions. Doctors and nurses are physically and emotionally exhausted. Patients know they are pitied and feared. The government refuses to supply additional out-of-hospital aid. This is not a specter of the future but the reality of today, as the AIDS crisis wreaks havoc on patients, medical personnel, politicians, and society at large. This program talks with patients, medical staff, and experts in a range of pertinent fields.
