Abstract: (Producer) In this episode, the news about AIDS began to contain a clear reason for hope. Research scientists predicted that within several years, AIDS would become a chronic and serious but manageable illness. While scientists searched for an effective treatment, AIDS spread to new populations. In one segment, the program reports that the greatest increase in infections was among intravenous (IV) drug users, their sex partners and their children.
