Abstract: (Producer) This program explores the latest developments in AIDS research and treatment, examining the ways in which the notoriously slow process for the development and approval of new drugs is being altered by the urgency of the AIDS epidemic. Because the average lifespan of PWAs (People with AIDS) is only two years compared with the normal eight to 10-year period for approval of new drugs, and because these patients are refusing to sit around waiting to die, new and private means are being established to perform drug tests.
