Abstract: Abstracts are presented for the 18th European Tumor Virus Group meeting held April 30-May 4, 1989, in Sweden. Titles for the portion of the meeting covering retroviruses and immunosuppression (prevention and therapy) include isolation of an inhibitor of retrovirus multiplication; highly protective cell-derived vaccine against bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection; retrovirus-related gene products in human cells and tissues; lytic infection and transformation of human diploid fibroblasts by a polyoma virus isolated from a healthy donor; analysis of HIV-1 neutralization escape mutants; BLV immunostimulating complexes (biochemical characterization); expression of the BLV env gene by genetically engineered vaccinia virus recombinants; inhibition of the processing of HIV-protein precursors by a renin-inhibitor synthetic peptide; effect of antiviral, cancerostatic, and anticoagulant substances on reverse transcriptase of different retroviruses; and structure-activity relationships of fluorinated nucleoside analogs and their synergistic effect in combination with Foscarnet on HIV-1.
