Perlino CA

Abstract: (Producer) This videotape discusses patients infected with the Human Immunodefiency Virus (HIV) who are presently being given emergency care or are being hospitalized in many areas of the United States. Dr. Perlino then talks about the risk of acquiring HIV infection in the work setting by parenteral or mucous membrane contact with the blood from an infected patient which is low, but not absent. The tape also reviews the evidence to date defining the risk of nosocomial HIV infection among health care workers with methods to decrease that risk and procedures which might be followed if an accident does occur.
