Abstract: AIDS in children, adolescents, and heterosexual adults is covered in this volume, which is based on a conference held February 19-21, 1987 in Atlanta, Georgia, under the sponsorship of the International Interdisciplinary AIDS Foundation. Topics include public health challenges; legal, social, and religious issues; economic considerations; community resources; the role of the media; HIV and its pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention; the epidemiological basis for intervention; infection control within different institutions and localities; general and psychosocial aspects of the pregnant woman--infected or at risk; the growing problem of pregnant women and their offspring at risk of developing HIV infection in various areas of the world; general pediatric aspects of AIDS; medical and nursing management issues; dilemmas of adoption, foster care, and day care; the sexually active adolescent; education and behavior change in adolescents (historical and conceptual aspects); AIDS in schools, colleges and universities; and education and behavior change (practical experience and projected strategies).
