Abstract: (Producer) The Legacy is a series of four 30-minute videotapes: Overview: shows the coordination of inservice education by physician, infection control staff and nursing manager to allay fears and answer questions. Moves from the patient's first admission through his last revealing the many pressures experienced by the health care team as they worked to support the patient. The Physician: focuses on the physician as head of the health care team. Shows how he is frustrated both by the unknowns of the disease and by the limiations of current treatments. Reveals how AIDS isolates many patients from support systems and places additional, difficult responsibilities on the physician. The Nurse: illustrates the complexities of coordinating care, dealing with medical isolation procedures, facilitating on-going education of regular staff, float and on-call personnel. Identifies the extraordinary needs most AIDS patients have and the difficulties in learning how to respond to them. The Social Work: highlights the special role of the social worker in responding to the unique problems AIDS presents; isolation for patients; family and friends who may be afraid of contact with the patient; and, caregivers who may be dealing with their own fears and conflicts.
