Abstract: Clinical and pathologic observations made in a patient with inflammatory myopathy associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) are presented. Multinucleated giant cells were a prominent histopathologic feature in the muscle biopsy samples. The findings indicate that in some patients with AIDS myositis, inflammatory myopathy may be the direct result of infection with the human immunodeficiency virus.
